This research investgates the neglected aspect of the structure of trade between Australia and China, which has important implications for net export and hence output and employment growth. Using data from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade website – www.dfat.gov.au, about the value of exports and imports between these countries, it is possible to calculate the structure of exports (proportion of primary products and manufacturing goods to total exports to China) and structure of imports (proportion of primary products and manufacturing goods to total imports from China).
